GIANTS ARE A HUGE PROBLEM IN LIBERIA …

Civil War + 14 years = GIANT PROBLEMS for this tiny nation off the western coast of Africa. According to Rosana Schaack, founder of THINK Inc. (Touching Humanity In Need of Kindness), there was something very wrong happening during the 14-year civil war in Liberia from 1989 to 2003. Human rights were grossly violated; women and children suffered the worst forms of violation and abuse. Children 7 years old and younger were made child combatants (known as child soldiers) while women and girls were raped and forcibly taken as wives and sex slaves for the fighting forces.

According to Schaack, by the end of the war, the country was left with many young girls having no purpose or direction for the future. Sexual violence continues to exist even after the war, where the majority of rape victims are children, according to treatment centre statistics.

Monrovia resident Tupee Kiadi says:

“The civil war is over, BUT THE NEW WAR IS RAPE, especially targeting teenagers and babies. During the war we had peacekeepers to prevent further violence…but women do not have peacekeepers to stop rape.”
